What a lap. What a session. For the fifth time in 2026, title-hunting Izan Guevara (BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2) will launch from pole position for the Moto2 Grand Prix thanks to a stunning 1:31.963 – the very first Moto2 lap in the 1:31 bracket. It was a rollercoaster Q2 that saw Alex Escrig (KLINT Racing Team) clinch P2, the Spaniard only 0.098s away from pole, with Colombia’s David Alonso (CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar Team) leaving it late to jump up to the front row.
The other headline grabber? Manuel Gonzalez (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP). The World Championship leader will be starting from P10 on Lombok, having lapped 0.413s slower than his chief title rival in a blockbuster 15-minute Qualifying 2 session.
Escrig occupied provisional pole for much of the session, but Guevara rolled out that stunner to steal the Saturday honours – and a Tissot watch! – away from the KLINT star. Alonso shoved teammate Daniel Holgado off the front row in the latter stages; it’s P4 for the #96, while Daniel Muñoz (Italtrans Racing Team) and the rider third in the championship, Ivan Ortola (QJMOTOR – JP Financial – MSI), line up in P5 and P6 respectively.
Having come through Q1, both Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team) and recently injured Collin Veijer (Red Bull KTM Ajo) should be satisfied with P7 and P8 in Q2, with Japanese GP podium finisher Tony Arbolino (REDS Fantic Racing) joining the American and Dutchman on Row 3.
Then comes Gonzalez. It’s a disappointing day for the title race leader, who now has plenty of pressure on to try and keep his 10.5-point lead afloat on Sunday.
