French Junior Cup winner in 1998, Hugo Marchand contested the 125 French Championship in 1999 and 2000 before stepping up to the 250 class in 2001, when he finished fourth. He also took part in five of the eight rounds of the 250 European Championship in 2001, finishing in 26th position overall. He continued his education the following season in the 250 World Championship as part of the Equipe de France Scrab GP team but only scored points on two occasions. In 2003, his best result was a ninth place in Assen and he moved to Freesoul Abruzzo Racing team last year. He finished 16th overall and scored his best ever result at Sepang, taking 8th. He will start the 2005 season with the Campetella Racing team, stepping in for the injured Taro Sekiguchi.
