Trayectoria

Imre Toth followed in the footsteps of his compatriot Gabor Talmacsi, whose arrival in Grand Prix put an end to a 20 year absence of Hungarian riders in the 125cc World Championship. After starting competitive riding at just five years of age, Toth has twice been crowned Hungarian national 500cc champion. With special permission he competed nationally in the 125cc class at the tender age of 11 and was eventually proclaimed Hungarian champion in 1998, whilst also demonstrating his abilities in the German championship.

Toth arrived in the 125cc World Championship in 2002, aged 16, and gained experience on a Honda alongside team-mate Nobby Ueda, the veteran Japanese rider. He took part in three consecutive campaigns with Team Hungary, although he did not achieve especially notable success during this period. In 2006, on an Aprilia and as part of his family’s Team Toth outfit, he continued accumulating experience in the category but did not win points at any Grands Prix. In 2007 he gained more experience with a move into 250cc, the team reinforced by the recruitment of the highly talented Spaniard Hector Barbera.

Although Toth only managed two point scoring finishes in 2007, he improved slightly alongside Barbera again in ’08 with a handful of point-scoring results. He stays put in 2009, with new arrival Mattia Pasini recruited to ride with him following Barbera’s departure from the team.
