Colombia’s Yonny Hernandez started racing motocross when he was 15 and was immediately successful, winning every round of the 85cc national crown to win the championship in 2003, which he repeated in 2005. In 2008, while racing the Spanish Supermotard series, he made his road-racing debut and won his very first race. He placed fourth overall in the CEV national championship Supersport category in 2009 prior to his entry onto the world stage in 2010, in the Moto2™ class. He produced a series of points-scoring finishes, and two top ten results, and his participation made him the first Colombian to compete in the World Championship. He remained in Moto2™ in 2011, after which he signed with the Avintia Racing MotoGP™ CRT outfit for 2012. Despite some good performances, he and the team parted, with Hernandez moving to the PBM on-board its ART bike. From Aragón onwards, Hernandez rode for Ignite Pramac Racing as replacement for the injured Ben Spies. At MotorLand, he narrowly missed out on a place in the Q2 qualifying shootout before going on to achieve 12th position at the end of the Grand Prix. He stayed with Pramac for 2014 as teammate to Andrea Iannone and in 2015 he rode for the Italian team once again, now accompanied in the box by Danilo Petrucci. Herenandez’s season started well but faded towards the end. For 2016 he switched to the Aspar team, but remained on the GP14.2, and had a tough year in the premier class. In 2017 he returned to Moto2™ with the AGR team after 5 years in MotoGP™, but he didn’t complete the season. The call from Team Pedercini Racing opened the doors for him to compete in WorldSBK and to face a new challenge. His extensive experience in the world of motorcycling led him to participate in the 2019 FIM World Endurance Championship with the Honda Endurance Racing team, where he finished 6th overall. In 2021, the Colombian rider once again steps into a new world as he will compete in the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup with OCTO Pramac MotoE.
