It was a fantastic start for the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team at the PTT Thailand Grand Prix after Maverick Viñales finished top of FP1, setting a 1:31.220 to go 0.270 quicker than teammate Valentino Rossi who in turn heads Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) by 0.146 as the premier class hit the ground running at the Chang International Circuit.
Fourth on the timesheets was Jack Miller (Alma Pramac Racing), 0.001 splitting the Australian from fellow Ducati rider Dovizioso, with Championship leader Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) completing the top five – a 1:31.668 leaves the Spaniard 0.448 off top spot.
Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) had a mechanical problem right at the beginning of the session.
A valiant start for Viñales and Rossi in Thailand, but can they carry their early pace into FP2 later on today? Don’t miss the premier class on track for FP2 at 14:05 local time (GMT +7).
