Bezzecchi betters Bastianini heading into qualifying

Italian crashed but still went quickest in Moto3™ FP3 to beat his countryman, with fellow Italian Arbolino P3

Despite a crash at the start of the session, Marco Bezzecchi (Redox PruestelGP) went and set the quickest time in Moto3™ FP3 at the Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana to head field into qualifying.

A 1:49.406 was the Italian’s quickest time on a damp Circuit Ricardo Tormo as the sun shone in Valencia for the first time this weekend, with Enea Bastianini (Leopard Racing) going second late in the session – a 1:49.793 leaves him 0.387 behind his compatriot, and the only other rider under the 1:50 bracket. Third on the timesheets was another Italian; Tony Arbolino (Marinelli Snipers Team), he was 0.635 off Bezzecchi, with the ever-impressive wildcard rider Raul Fernandez (Angel Nieto Team Moto3) – who led for most of the session – P4. Bezzecchi’s teammate Jakub Kornfeil completes the top five on Saturday morning.

Track conditions were still slippery from the overnight rain, with some riders getting caught out. Tatsuki Suzuki (SIC58 Squadra Corsa), wildcard Can Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo), teammate Darryn Binder, Gabriel Rodrigo (RBA BOE Skull Rider), Petronas Sprinta Racing’s Ayumu Sasaki – who went to the medical centre - and Andrea Migno (Angel Nieto Team Moto3) all crashed – riders ok.

Moto3™ qualifying begins at 12:35 local time (GMT +1) – tune in for the last lightweight class battle for pole of the year!
