Lorenzo to Ducati? – Ciabatti offers his opinion

The Ducati Corse Sporting Director speaks to DAZN about the possible return of Jorge Lorenzo and the future of Andrea Dovizioso

Who will be Jack Miller's Ducati Team teammate in 2021? It remains one of the great unknowns in the rider market but speaking to Spanish MotoGP™ broadcaster DAZN on Friday morning, Ducati Corse Sporting Director Paolo Ciabatti shed some light on the situation.

A rumour that is starting to surface is Jorge Lorenzo making a shock return to the Bologna factory in 2021, with talks currently on hold between Ducati Team and Andrea Dovizioso. But how true are the rumours that the five-time World Champion and Ducati are thinking about collaborating again?

“At the moment, no. Of course Jorge would like to return here and do something to end his career in a different way, but at the moment, I think it is just an idea of Jorge,” commented Ciabatti. “We, as I said, want to wait for the first races. In principle, the idea was to wait for Jerez in the previous calendar to make a decision about the future. Now we will wait for the first races to make the best decision. We must also value what Bagnaia and Zarco are capable of doing this year and then we will have all the elements to make the best decision for the future.”

Ducati Team Manager Davide Tardozzi said a decision will be made between Dovizioso and Ducati after the opening couple of races. For now, we’ll have to sit tight and impatiently wait for further news on one of the top MotoGP™ seats.
