Speaking to DAZN at the Gran Premio TISSOT dell'Emilia Romagna e della Riviera di Rimini, Esponsorama Racing Team Manager Ruben Xaus has admitted that there is a possibility Luca Marini (SKY Racing Team VR46) could be lining up alongside Tito Rabat in 2021.
Last weekend, at the San Marino GP, Ducati confirmed that Enea Bastianini (Italtrans Racing Team) has signed a contract with the Bologna factory. The Moto2™ star, according to Xaus, was “99%” going to ride for the Esponsorama Racing team in 2021, but speaking to Spanish broadcaster DAZN, the former Grand Prix rider admitted that current intermediate class title leader Marini is also an option for the team next season.
“First of all, we have to thank everyone for paying so much attention to Esponsorama Racing, because two years ago this team was the tail of the paddock and no one spoke of it except for making negative reviews,” said Xaus.
“That's why all this is very good. We are working well and we need a really big sponsor to grow more, although this today is difficult. There are several options on the table and, today, Tito Rabat is our rider and with whom we have an agreement, with a sponsor who is tied to him, and we are happy.
“And on the other bike there will be an Italian on top of it. Who will it be? We do not know. There is a great desire for Bastianini to ride on that bike, but yesterday Rossi praised us and was a good manager for us. And it is world news that his brother can come to our structure and we will see how this film ends, because it has many chapters and these last two weeks are being crazy.”
Pushed to answer whether the line-up could be Marini and Rabat, Xaus replied: “Indeed. It could be more things. The important thing is that this team is here next year and does it at a good level and with results.”
