Ahead of the second half of the season getting underway for Aprilia Racing Team Gresini, Technical Director Romano Albesiano hailed the work done by test rider Andrea Dovizioso done so far this season.
The Noale factory are having their best premier class season to date in 2021, with Aleix Espargaro notching up seven top 10 finishes before the summer break – including two equal best results (P6) for Aprilia in MotoGP™. Before July’s mid-season break, Albesiano spoke to motogp.com about the first half of the campaign and mentioned Dovizioso’s fantastic work on the RS-GP.
“It's a very positive experience,” said Albesiano about working with Dovizioso. “He's such a clever rider. He understands a lot the working of the machine. At the same time he doesn't try to be the engineer himself. He gives us his clear feelings and with his experience he's helping us a lot.
“We've done three tests. One was almost cancelled due to rain, but in the first and especially the last tests he gave us very important information. It's a real pleasure to work with him and he helps us a lot.”
Since then, Dovizioso has been at MotorLand Aragon for another two-day private test, as teammates Aleix Espargaro and Lorenzo Savadori get set to attack the Red Bull Ring twice. A P11 and P12 came Espargaro’s way in Styria and Austria last year, results he and the team will be expecting to better on the new and improved RS-GP.
It's safe to say that it’s been a very positive first half of 2021 on track for Aprilia, and Dovizioso has contributed to that. The 15-time MotoGP™ winner will be taking part in more test days throughout 2021, so it’ll be interesting to see how the RS-GP continues to develop with the help of the experienced Dovizioso for the remainder of the season and into 2022.
