Lopez under the lap record on Day 1 ahead of Moreira

The #21 completed a perfect Friday, finishing fastest ahead of Moreira and Dixon in Aragon

Moto2™ had a thrilling opening day of action at the Gran Premio GoPro de Aragon, with Alonso Lopez (Sync SpeedUp) completing a perfect Friday by finishing fastest and earning a provisional spot in Q2. The #21 set an impressive 1:50.989, improving significantly from the time set in the morning session. Behind Lopez was Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team), with the #10 ending a strong showing in Aragon - finishing 0.223s adrift. Meanwhile, CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team’s Jake Dixon took the final spot inside the top three after setting 20 laps in Practice 1.

Lopez secured an early advantage from Tony Arbolino (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) after the Spaniard topped Free Practice on Friday morning - setting a strong 1:51.657. The #21 would carry his pace into Practice 1, taking top honours from teammate Fermin Aldeguer (Sync SpeedUp) with less than 20 minutes remaining. Lap times continued to change with Moreira taking P1 before Lopez entered the 1:50 bracket for the first time in Moto2™.

Meanwhile, Aldeguer dropped to fourth as the chequered flag flew, unable to improve on his strong 1:51.299 and crossing the line ahead of Aron Canet (Fantic Racing). Canet rounded out the top five after he was forced to back out of his final flying lap after a moment with Italtrans Racing Team's Dennis Foggia. Meanwhile, Albert Arenas (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™) was sixth, ending the day in front of OnlyFans American Racing Team’s Marcos Ramirez in seventh. Meanwhile, Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) was eighth, with the #53 having a moment at the end of the Practice 1 with Filip Salac (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team).

Rounding out the top 10 were Manuel Gonzalez (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™) and Somkiat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia). It is a big weekend for Chantra, with the #35 being announced to join IDEMITSU Honda LCR in 2025 in the premier class. Meanwhile, Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team) was 11th overall, ahead of Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo), with the Italian aiming for further success this weekend. Behind the #13 and taking the final provisional Q2 spots were Bo Bendsneyder (Preicanos Racing Team) and Izan Guevara (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team).
