Talking Points: "I didn’t want to steal the flag with all the autographs!"

After a historic weekend at the Cathedral of Speed, dive into all the latest stories from on and off the track

Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) notched up his 68th MotoGP victory, matching Giacomo Agostini’s win tally. It was a historic weekend as the Motul Grand Prix of the Netherlands delivered a stunning battle, with the #93 defeating Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) by 0.635s. Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) secured the final spot on the podium as he continues to find a step in 2025, as Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) crashed out, suffering a fracture in his left hand. As we leave Assen, make sure you check out some of the hottest talking points from Round 10 of the season!

"I was not the fastest out there"

It was an incredible day for Marc Marquez, who celebrated a hard-fought victory at the Dutch GP. There was added delight to his win as the #93 levelled MotoGP Legend Giacomo Agostini, with 68 premier class victories. However, emotions were mixed in the Marquez camp, with Alex Marquez suffering a crash. Following a dramatic Sunday, Marc shared his perspective and explained how he was able to claim P1.

Marc Marquez: "It looks like this year we are winning at more difficult circuits for us, and we are making some mistakes at my favourite circuits. Apart from that, I'm super happy because I believe that, honestly, today, I was not the fastest out there, but I was able to manage the race. I'm very happy because it was a very difficult start to the weekend. But I'm not 100% happy because my father just told me that Alex got injured.

"Today, I defended from Marco in the best way possible. I knew that they were faster in Turns 11 and 12. That is the fastest area, and the corners are very narrow. So, if you are on the good line, they cannot attack you. I just was strong on the braking points, so I was able to defend in a good way.

"All the grid wants to win, but the problem is that only one is able to win."

"I didn’t want to steal the flag with all the autographs"

Marco Bezzecchi delivered another strong performance at Assen, crossing the line in second to secure a well-earned podium finish. Building on his P3 finish in the Sprint, the Italian showed race-winning pace throughout Sunday’s Grand Prix. Despite his best efforts, Bezzecchi was unable to disrupt Marc Marquez’ rhythm, ultimately finishing as the runner-up. After the race, he shared his thoughts following a positive afternoon and the reason for his incident after the chequered flag!

Bezzecchi: "I don’t even remember the last time that I made a double podium on Saturday and Sunday. I can’t be happier than this. Finally, a decent qualifying, then a podium yesterday and a podium today. So very happy. First of all, I’m very happy about the race today because I was close to Marc all the time. Honestly, I didn’t expect it at all, but then when I found myself there, I said, ‘Why not? Why not try to stay close to him?’

"I saw a marshal with an Italian flag, and I wanted to take the flag. When I stopped, I went to grab the flag, but I saw it was full of autographs, and I didn’t want to steal the flag with all the autographs from the marshal. I lost my concentration and I lost my balance and crashed. Fortunately, my bike stayed on, and then the marshal helped me to start again, and I gave the flag back."

"We just need to take the positives"

Francesco Bagnaia crossed the line in third position, claiming another podium finish as he continues to search for the next step to improve his feeling on the bike. However, the #63 believes that the pace is there, needing to find further mid-race pace to complete the next step. Following his podium finish, Bagnaia gave his thoughts as he turned his attention to the German GP.

Bagnaia: "I feel that for the first time this season, my pace was the strongest one during the weekend. Throughout the weekend, my pace was one of the strongest along with Marco’s pace, but then in the race, I finished in the same place as always. I’m struggling more or less always in the same way. I’m there fighting. I can fight and attack in the first laps, but then I feel like a little drop that costs me a bit in the middle of the race, and then I’m able to be fast again.

"In any case, Marc is doing a fantastic job with this bike. I’m struggling more to find my balance on this bike, knowing exactly how last year’s bike was. I’m just struggling with it, but we are working. For a second weekend in a row, I was fast enough to fight and attack in the first laps. We just need to take the positives from this weekend."

"I couldn't really push anymore"

Maverick Viñales (Red Bull KTM Tech3) had an encouraging Grand Prix onboard the KTM, charging to P5 at the line. The #12 finished behind Pedro Acosta after a great weekend for the Austrian manufacturer, with three KTMs finishing inside the top 10 at the chequered flag. Discussing his feelings on the bike, Viñales continues to look for a further step in the closing stages.

Viñales: "I'm quite happy, obviously, I still have a lot to learn with the bike. I had a really good rhythm from Lap 10 to Lap 17. I could ride quite fast, and I could see the guys in the front were not going away. But then I had a massive drop on the rear tyre, so I couldn't push anymore. I tried, but I couldn’t. You know, sometimes you need to accept it, and today is one of those days where I had nothing left in the last five laps!”

"Thank you to Aleix"

Somkiat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda LCR) made history on Sunday, crossing the line in P15 to clinch his first point in the premier class. It was an unforgettable moment as Chantra claimed Thailand’s first MotoGP point after the #35 finished ahead of Aleix Espargaro (Honda HRC Castrol). Reflecting on an emotional day, Chantra gave his thoughts as he looks to carry his momentum into Germany.

Chantra: "I was really happy to get my first point. I want to say thank you to Aleix, because I was behind him for many laps, and he tried to teach me a lot when I was behind him. I changed my riding style and braking points during the race, and the difference was noticeable. During Practice and qualifying, it can be difficult to follow a rider as during one or two laps as they are very fast. But during a race, I was able to stay behind Aleix, and it was super nice to learn.

"I want to thank the team for their help and for pushing really hard, and finally, we got one point. Now we need to keep pushing and try to get more points!"

"Thanks to Trackhouse"

Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) enjoyed a confidence-boosting weekend in the Netherlands, charging to P8 at the line to collect valuable Championship points. After a challenging start to the 2025 season, Fernandez took the opportunity to thank his team for their support at the start of the year. Reflecting on the Grand Prix, Fernandez described a tricky start to the race after opting for the medium rear tyre.

Fernandez: "I am really happy, I think we are doing a good job, I am really happy for the team. Trackhouse helped me at the right moments. At the beginning of the season, I was in a strange situation; I wasn’t enjoying it, and it was quite frustrating as we couldn’t find a way to be fast and enjoy the bike. So, thanks to Trackhouse, we have been doing a good job since the Jerez Test and since France, where we are always inside the top 10. The race was really good; I was really happy about the pace, but it is true that it was tricky with the medium rear at the beginning of the race."
