Lorenzo: “My pole position lap was very good almost perfect'

A record destroying lap at the bwin Grand Prix České republiky saw Lorenzo claim pole position for the second time this year.

For the first time in history a MotoGP™ machine was able to lap the Brno circuit under a 1’55. Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) set a stunning 1’54.989s for a near perfect lap of the Czech circuit. The Yamaha factory rider has looked strong throughout the weekend, but a drop in temperature saw grip improve and Lorenzo was able to put it all on the line. Having already set an impressive banker lap, Lorenzo felt there was nothing to lose on his second attempt and was able to produce a near perfect lap, losing only a little time in the final turn due to spinning.

Lorenzo will be a major threat for victory come Sunday’s race, however a strong start will be critical. As he has shown on multiple occasions, if Lorenzo can break away early he is nearly unstoppable but if he gets involved in a battle with the likes of Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) it will be a much tougher race.

Jorge Lorenzo: “I am really proud of my two lap times, because the first one was as impressive as the second but just not enough to make the pole position. In the end I had to improve the lap time by two or three tenths to keep an advantage over Marc. I didn‘t expect my time, but I didn't expect those from Marc or even Valentino either, but everyone was pushing so much and they improved a lot. My pole position lap was very good, almost perfect, except maybe the last corner wasn‘t because I had a lot of wheel spin, but a perfect lap is impossible, so we have to be very satisfied. I am confident for tomorrow because I think we have a great base setting. We will see tomorrow what the weather is like, how our rivals are doing after some laps, but we are confident.”
