Redding: “I was baulked a bit on my fastest lap”

Opening practice for the Gran Premio Movistar de Aragon saw Britain’s Scott Redding secure 12th overall.

The San Marino GP was an incredible result for Scott Redding aboard the Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS Racing Honda, able to score his debut MotoGP™ World Championship podium despite crashing in the race. This confidence has done him a world of good and was evident in Aragon, especially during FP1. The first session saw Redding up in an incredible fifth, ending the session as the leading satellite rider. In the afternoon ground temperatures rose by over 15ºC and times dropped.

Most of the MotoGP™ field pushed for a final flying lap towards the end of the session, unfortunately when Redding put in a new tyre, his lap was interrupted. A 1’49.007 put Redding in 12th overall, but ahead of fellow satellite Honda rider Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda). Saturday practice will see Redding focus on improving his issues with rear traction, an issue that he has struggled with throughout the year.

Scott Redding: “I'm feeling okay after today. We still have the same problem on used tyres and we're struggling for traction a little, but in the afternoon I felt good. When we put in the new tyre I was baulked a bit on my fastest lap so I'm not really disappointed because I don't feel that this final position reflects where we are this weekend. I felt quite comfortable on the bike and now we're going to try and find something to help with rear grip for free practice and qualifying tomorrow."
