Kent: “We couldn’t do any laps during the second session”

A technical problem saw Danny Kent unable to set a single lap in FP2 but the Brit still ends Friday at the Pramac Australian Motorcycle Gran

As always, practice at the Australian GP was hit with brief spells of wet weather, forcing riders back into the pits and to miss valuable track time. Not only did Danny Kent have to contend with the rain and wind, he also had to battle a clutch issue that saw him unable to complete a single flying lap in FP2. His team worked hard but were unable to diagnose and fix the problem in time. The Leopard Racing rider still ended Friday in second overall, only Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo) faster than him. Kent and the team remained unworried by the lost track time due to the Brit’s strong start to the day.

The lone session did give valuable data and the areas that need improving have been identified. Kent has suffered similar set backs throughout the year, such as in Germany, but has almost always bounced back and continued the weekend as if nothing had happened.

Danny Kent: “Overall we are second placed in the combined time sheets but there could have been a lot more of positive things to tell because we just were able to use FP1 to our utmost whilst we couldn’t do any laps during the second session due to a material defect at the clutch. So we need to find out what the problem is. In any case, during this morning’s first practice, I had quite a good feeling and we know the areas where we can improve. I think things are looking good, so we just need to explore the reason for the problem in order to get ready for tomorrow.”
