Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider, Alex Marquez, sustained a fracture to his left triquetrum – one of the eight small carpal bones in the wrist - after crashing heavily at Sito Pons corner while testing at Jerez on the 20th of February.
Following the crash Marquez returned to Barcelona, where he was admitted to the Hospital University Quirón Dexeus in Barcelona for further examination and treatment.
On the morning of Sunday the 21st of February, the Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider underwent surgery, with surgeons under the direction of Doctor Xavier Mir successfully inserting a titanium screw to stabilise the fracture using keyhole surgery techniques.
Doctors at the Hospital University Quirón Dexeus will monitor Marquez’s recovery and rehabilitation over the next seven days, after which a decision will made as to when the former Moto3™ World Champion will be fit enough to resume testing.
