Espargaro: “I can’t wait to see the red lights”

Espargaro: “I can’t wait to see the red lights”

It was a mixed pre-season for Aleix Espargaro but he’s ready to put the hard times behind him and get racing.

With a variety of new engine, chassis and gearbox upgrades during the pre-season, Alexi Espargaro was hoping for a lot from the tests. Unfortunately for the Team Suzuki Ecstar man, he struggled a lot with front-end feel, in turn drastically restricting his ability to pull out a single flying lap. Despite these issues Espargaro and his crew, led by crew chief Tom O’Kane, were able to gather an impressive amount of data and steadily improve their performance with each run. They’re now aiming to continue the trend, using their base from the Qatar Test as the starting point.

The Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar will open the 2016 MotoGP™ World Championship under the famous floodlights, offering a preview as to what the next 17 races may hold. In 2015 Espargaro achieved an 11th place start and 11th place finish on his race debut with Suzuki, both he and the Japanese manufacturer are aiming for more in 2016. Both Espargaro and Viñales have made the top six their clear goal for the year, based on testing the new GSX-RR certainly has the pace to do just that.

Aleix Espargaro: “I feel very motivated for this first race in Qatar and I can’t wait to see the red lights to switch off and start the fight. In general I’m not the kind of rider who likes the preparation work, I’m more into the racing side of the job. Moreover this year, I have suffered a lot in the winter tests. To be honest, I’m not so worried with the results of the test; already the last day here a few weeks ago we found a new set-up which made me more comfortable and I’m sure the adrenaline of the race will give us a further push to improve.”
