Rossi tops opening session in Barcelona

The ‘Doctor’ set the pace in FP1 to finish ahead of Dovizioso and Lorenzo

Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) topped FP1 at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, his 1:39.456 that was set on soft compound tyres was 0.347 quicker than second place Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team), who set his quickest time with a hard rear tyre.

Third fastest in the opening session of the weekend was Mugello race winner Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team), just 0.001 behind his teammate, with Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) fourth fastest – 0.426 behind Rossi.

Andrea Iannone (Team Suzuki Ecstar), who finished ninth in FP1, crashed at Turn 10 early in the session. Franco Morbidelli (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) was another faller, with Karel Abraham (Angel Nieto Team) also crashing – riders ok.

Jack Miller (Alma Pramac Racing) then fell at the end of the session after a slight collision with Bradley Smith (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) at Turn 5 – rider ok.
