After topping the Day 1 times at the second and final Official FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup Jerez Test, Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt Intact GP) continued to assert his dominance on 2021 pre-season testing by finishing 10 seconds clear of rookies Fermin Aldeguer (Openbank Aspar Team) and Miquel Pons (LCR E-Team) in the eight-lap race simulation.
During the race simulation, Aegerter’s best lap time was a 1:47.259 – the fastest-ever MotoE™ lap at the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto. Of course, it was only a race simulation, so drawing too many conclusions would be a mistake. However, it was very positive for the top three, with 16-year-old Aldeguer and Pons both impressing at the beginning of their rookie campaigns on Energica Ego Corsas.
Reigning Cup winner Jordi Torres (Pons Racing 40) and Eric Granado (One Energy Racing) were two riders who didn’t go out all guns blazing in the race simulation, the duo intentionally ran wide and decided to keep their cards close to their chest, trying different things on the bike while riding – relatively – alone. Two of the pre-season favourites crossed the line in P10 and P11 respectively, Torres beating Granado.

Elsewhere, Lukas Tulovic (Tech3 E-Racing) and Xavier Cardelus (Avintia Esponsorama Racing) were inside the top five, with Alessandro Zaccone (Octo Pramac MotoE) P6. MotoE™’s first-ever Cup winner Matteo Ferrari (Team Gresini MotoE) finished P7, with the Italian having difficulties adapting to Michelin’s new tyres, especially the front. In stark contrast, Aegerter – as can be seen by the timesheets – is loving life on the new tyres. Differing fortunes so far for two 2020 title contenders. Rookies Hikari Okubo (Avant Ajo MotoE) and Yonny Hernandez (Octo Pramac MotoE) were P8 and P9, just ahead of 10th place Torres.

In terms of the times that were set outside of the race simulation, Granado was the fastest rider thanks to a 1:47.681. This lap from the Brazilian was 0.248s better than Aegerter’s best away from the race simulation, with Tulovic completing the top three, 0.404s behind.
