Where will Pedro Acosta ride in 2024? Undoubtedly one of the biggest questions lingering over the current silly season, it seems we may finally have an answer. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider, who is currently competing for the Moto2™ title, will move to MotoGP™ in 2024 according to reports.
There are certainly no lack of suitors for the Spanish boy wonder, but motorsport.com have claimed that Acosta wishes to repay the faith shown in him by KTM, and has decided to remain with the Austrian marque as he steps up to the premier class.
"We want to give KTM the first opportunity to go up to MotoGP with them, beyond the options contemplated in the contract," Albert Valera, Acosta’s manager, told motorsport.com, before adding: "KTM has always been very good to Pedro, and he is very grateful."
The article also states that Acosta's management believe it to be the right time to take the inevitable next step in his career, with KTM in agreement after back-to-back wins at Mugello and the Sachsenring.
That puts the ball very much in KTM's court, and leaves them with a major headache. Currently, all four seats aboard the RC16 are occupied, with Brad Binder and Jack Miller having stellar seasons on the factory team and contracted to 2024, while Augusto Fernandez and Pol Espargaro compose the GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3 team. Unlike the factory duo, only Espargaro's contract goes beyond the current campaign while Fernandez' expires at the end of 2023. Previously described as a 'luxury problem' by Pit Beirer, KTM Motorsport Director, it seems that some difficult conversation will be had in the coming weeks as whoever misses out at Acosta's expense will feel extremely unlucky.
