The Moto2 field hit the track at the Gran Premio d’Italia Brembo MotoGP™ for the start of an important weekend with Fermin Aldeguer (MB Conveyors SpeedUp) finishing on top of a session for the first time since the Spanish GP. Aldeguer set a brilliant 1:51.311 in the closing stages of the session to finish ahead of Somkiat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia), who had a flying start to the weekend. The #35 ended Free Practice a mere 0.069s behind Aldeguer with Elf Marc VDS Racing Team’s Tony Arbolino in third position after the Italian had a sensational to the Italian GP - completing 17 laps across the session.

Ayumu Sasaki (Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team) was the first crasher of the weekend, going through the gravel and falling at turn 1. However, later in the final minutes of the session, there was a crash for Alonso Lopez (MB Conveyors SpeedUp) at turn 14 while on a fast lap, forcing Lopez to end the session down in 20th position.
