Alonso secures an incredible fourth pole position ahead of Ortola

A brilliant Moto3™ qualifying has concluded with David Alonso (CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team) storming to pole position after an incredible performance at the Gran Premio d’Italia Brembo. The #80 secured pole position after a frantic session, with Alonso taking top honours on his final flying lap. Ivan Ortola (MT Helmets – MSI) takes second at the Italian GP after a smart qualifying with the #48 trying to learn everything he could from Alonso. Rounding off the front row at Mugello was Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Jose Antonio Rueda, who took his sixth front row of the season.

A dramatic end to Q1 and an unexpected start to Q2

It was a fast and furious Q1 session with MLav Racing’s Scott Ogden taking top honours and earning a spot inside Q2 alongside David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports), Joel Kelso (BOE Motorsports), and Filippo Farioli (SIC58 Squadra Corse). However, once Q2 got underway it was Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) who was fast straight out of the gates, with Alonso ending his first run down in third.

On the second run, Veijer would improve before all eyes turned to Alonso who briefly topped the times before Ortola was next to steal the top honours on his final run. However, Alonso would have his chance response, clocking an incredible 1:54.194 on his final lap of qualifying before Rueda jumped to third to knock Veijer off the front row.

Veijer fourth after turn 10 crash

Veijer heads the second row of the grid after a late crash at Scarperia while the #95 was on a fast lap. Alongside the Dutchman will be Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3), who rounds out the top five – less than a second adrift. Holgado has a good starting position for Sunday but will want to move forward. Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse) is next up, qualifying as the top Honda.

Rookie Jacob Roulstone (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) starts from seventh on the grid, alongside Honda Team Asia’s Taiyo Furusato, with the #72 continuing to impress this weekend. After fighting through Q1 earlier on, Kelso will round off the third row of the grid in ninth position. Meanwhile, Kelso’s teammate David Muñoz (BOE Motorsport) will start down in 14^th with work to do on Sunday.
