MotoGP™ returns to action this weekend with the British GP first up after the summer break. It’s set to be a festival of motorcycle racing as the World Championship celebrates its 75th anniversary, with the weekend set for a vintage twist.
On the track, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) is the rider to beat as the reigning World Champion and current points leader on the march for a fifth consecutive victory. With the resumption of track action comes the return of MotoGP™ Fantasy, and this is your guide to the weekend at Silverstone!
Who made the Dream Team last time out?
There was high drama at the German GP prior to the break, as Bagnaia capitalized on Jorge Martin’s (Prima Pramac Racing) late fall, but the Italian’s haul of 45 points was only the second-highest amount. Indeed, the highest-scoring rider was Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) after he launched a spectacular Sunday comeback to go from P13 to P2 at the Sachsenring.
The German GP Dream Team Silver Riders are Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) and Miguel Oliveira (Trackhouse Racing), who collected 31 and 28 points respectively. With 47 points, Ducati were unsurprisingly the top constructor, with a Marquez double podium making Gresini Racing MotoGP™ the top team on 47 points.
Who are the standout contenders at the British GP?
Having lost the title lead last time out, Jorge Martin ($4.9M) will be looking to bounce back and add his name to the list of Silverstone winners.
It goes without saying, but with Pecco Bagnaia chasing a fifth consecutive win, the Championship leader is hard to look past. The Italian will cost a very hefty $5.1M, but as one of the six current riders to have tasted victory at Silverstone, he looks a good bet to add further honours, though, there is no shortage of riders out to stop him in his tracks.
Of those six riders, two of them ride the factory Aprilia. Aleix Espargaro and the Noale factory seem to have a love affair with the British circuit, with the #41 bagging the Italian manufacturer’s maiden MotoGP™ podium in 2021 before picking up his second premier class win in 2023. At $2.3M, Espargaro is a very budget-friendly option for Round 10.
On the other side of the Aprilia box, Maverick Viñales is another rider to have tasted Silverstone victory, back in 2016 aboard a Suzuki. In 2024, his form has been very hit-and-miss, but there is no doubting his quality when he is in form. If Top Gun and the RS-GP show some early form on Friday, then $2.8M could prove an absolute steal.
The other three riders to have won in England? Alex Rins, who will be absent this weekend, Fabio Quartararo (both Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) and Marc Marquez. The latter sits third in the title race and has taken four podiums to date in 2024, but is still seeking that maiden Ducati win. At $4.2M, Marquez doesn’t come cheap, but as always, you just know he will feature towards the front.
However, if you’re looking for another differential, then the younger Marquez brother could be the one for you at $2.7M. Alex secured his first podium of the year in Germany alongside Marc, while in 2023 he earned his first Tissot Sprint win at Silverstone. Consistently inside the strong point-scoring positions, the #73 can battle at the front in either the dry or wet, which could prove pivotal if typical British weather strikes.
It's set to be another barnstormer in Britain, so make sure you tune in from Friday morning when the first track action begins!
