Dixon pips Canet for a dream victory at home

Jake Dixon (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team) has completed his dream at the Monster Energy British Grand Prix, taking glory at home. The #96 took the lead on the final lap, sending the crowd to their feet and defeating Aron Canet (Fantic Racing). The Spaniard was a mere 0.177s behind Dixon after spending the majority of the Grand Prix in the lead. Meanwhile, Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo) climbed to take the final spot on the podium after a phenomenal fight for third.

Once the lights went out it was an incredible launch from Ai Ogura (MT Helmets – MSI), who had a comfortable gap through the opening sector. The battle behind Ogura was fierce, with Vietti charging hard behind. However, the rider on the move was Canet, who carved through the field on the opening lap, soon entering the podium places and pouncing on the #79 to lead the Triumph-powered field.

Dixon soon entered the front battle, passing Ogura on the entry to Copse – setting his sights on Canet in the lead. Meanwhile, the battle for the final spot on the podium as Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team) began to battle with Ogura. The American made the move stick for third on Lap 5 as Dixon began his attack at the beginning of Lap 6. The British made a move for the lead at Turn 3, running wide and allowing Canet to keep P1.

Everything soon unfolded at the front as Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team) crashed out of fifth position, after showing strong pace at Silverstone. Soon after, Roberts crashed on the entry to Turn 2, handing Albert Arenas (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™)  third position on Lap 7. There would also be disappointment for the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team as Tony Arbolino and later Filip Salac crashed out of the Grand Prix.

Meanwhile, Ogura began to drop back outside the top five, with Vietti and teammate Sergio Garcia (MT Helmets – MSI) closing in. The #79 soon dropped behind his teammate, with Jeremy Alcoba (Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team) becoming the next rider to close in on the polesitter.

At the front, the battle for the lead continued as Dixon slowly clawed back the gap to Canet in the lead, with just 0.246s separating the duo on Lap 14. The British rider would run wide with three laps remaining, allowing Canet to claim a half a second advantage.

Meanwhile, the battle for third was not decided as Garcia soon took the final spot on the podium, dropping Manuel Gonzalez (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™) to fourth. It was a four rider group, which would not be settled until the final lap.

It all came down to the final lap of the British Grand Prix, with Dixon stealing the lead on the entry to Turn 1, aiming to complete the dream at his home Grand Prix. The #96 pushed hard, extending his gap to four-tenths on the final lap. It was a dream finish, bringing the crowd to their feet with a British rider taking victory on British soil.

Garcia missed out on the podium on the final lap, crossing the line 1.422s adrift in fourth place. The #3 pulled off a heroic ride, from 16^th on the grid and finishing ahead of Gonzalez, who rounded out the top five. The Spaniard had a strong pace throughout, beating Darryn Binder (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) in sixth position. Alcoba took seventh in a strong result as Arenas crossed the line in eighth. Behind the #75 and taking the final spots inside the top 10 were Alonso Lopez (GT Trevisan SpeedUp) and Senna Agius, who ended a fantastic day for the Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP squad.
