Marc Marquez secures late FP1 honours ahead of Martin

The Spaniard set an early pace on Friday morning, finishing ahead of Jorge Martin and Franco Morbidelli

MotoGP™ is back for another chapter on the Adriatic coast, this time for the Gran Premio Pramac dell’Emilia-Romagna. A damp start to FP1 kicked off proceedings for the premier class, with Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) claiming top honours on Friday morning. It was a strong time for the eight-time World Champion, setting a 1:32.082 after the pace began to build in the closing stages of the session. The #93 had a 0.063s advantage over Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing), who claimed second after spending the latter stages of the session on top. It was a strong showing from Martin and a great morning for Prima Pramac Racing after Franco Morbidelli took third on his final flying lap.

Fourth place was grabbed by Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), with the Italian setting his first time in the final 20 minutes as conditions began to improve on the initially damp track. The #1 placed ahead of Aprilia Racing’s Maverick Viñales, who had a rock-solid start to the weekend, leaping to P5. Viñales was 0.409s adrift from top honours, ending the session in front of Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) in sixth spot. The Spaniard was ahead of compatriot Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3), who set the first time of the session in the opening five minutes - ending the morning in seventh.

Acosta was ahead of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Brad Binder, who was another rider who completed laps in the early stages – claiming P8. Meanwhile, the final positions inside the top 10 went the way of Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™ Team) and Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing). Missing out on a spot inside the top 10 was Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team), with the Italian finishing P12 ahead of Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing). Further back, Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team’s Fabio Di Giannantonio and Marco Bezzecchi were 16th and 21st at the start of the Emilia-Romagna GP.

The action continues at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, with the all-important Practice session beginning at 15:00 local time (UTC +2) to decide who will earn direct entry to Q2 on Saturday!
