MotoGP™ has landed in Asia for the long-awaited Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia, which plays host to Round 15 of the season. It was blue skies for FP1, with Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing) landing top honours after setting a 1:30.689 to start the weekend strong. The Italian improved on his final flying lap, placing 0.221s ahead of Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) on the opening session of the weekend. The #12 completed the most laps of the morning, while it was a successful morning for Championship leader Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing), who grabbed P3 and was half a second adrift from his teammate.

Fourth place went the way of Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3), who arrives at Mandalika for the first time as a MotoGP™ rider. The #31 ended the morning in front of the impressive Johann Zarco (CASTROL Honda LCR), with the Frenchman showing a consistent pace – briefly topping the timesheets – before ending FP1 in P5. Zarco showed some initial potential and was 0.767s adrift, finishing ahead of Round 13 winner Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™), with the #93 in sixth spot.
Meanwhile, Marco Bezzecchi (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) was seventh ahead of Ducati Lenovo Team’s Enea Bastianini, who was another rider to improve late – jumping to eighth. The final spots in the top 10 went the way of Luca Marini (Repsol Honda Team) and the fighting fit Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team), who completed nearly 20 laps. Further back, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) was down in 14th, beginning to build this weekend after a disappointing end to the Emilia-Romagna GP last time out. It was a tough morning for Trackhouse Racing’s Miguel Oliveira, with the Portuguese star suffering a highside on the exit of Turn 4 – ending the session in P22.
