MotoGP™ has landed for a critical Round 16 of the season at the legendary Motul Grand Prix of Japan. It is the final part of an intense triple header, which continues to deliver title twists at every opportunity. Everything remains up for grabs in 2024, so let’s dive into what you need to consider for MotoGP™ Fantasy as we gear up for the Japanese GP.
What happened last time out?
Further drama unfolded at the Indonesian GP, with Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) charging to victory, earning redemption after crashing in the Tissot Sprint. The #89 scored 35 Fantasy points from the weekend and is a rider who remains on fire. Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) claimed his fourth podium of the season, bagging second position and 34 Fantasy points in a remarkable result for the rookie.
Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) grabbed the final spot on the podium and took honours as the top Fantasy point scorer in Indonesia. The reigning World Champion took 37 Fantasy points for anyone who had Pecco in their team. The top team was Prima Pramac Racing, earning four Fantasy points more than rivals Ducati Lenovo Team. In terms of constructors, Ducati, unsurprisingly were the top scorers, ahead of KTM.
Who should I add to my team?
We now head to the incredible stop-and-go Mobility Resort Motegi, which is a venue that has played host to many last lap battles and seen Martin victorious in 2023. The #89 looks to be a strong pick but comes as the most expensive rider at $4.9M. Then there is Bagnaia ($4.8M), who has won here in Moto2™ but is yet to stand on the top step in the premier class and is in incredible form in 2024, claiming seven wins so far.
Then there is Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™), who will seek redemption after his Indonesian GP went up in smoke. The #93 has won at Motegi on three occasions in the premier class and stood on the final spot on the podium in 2023. If you want to go down the Ducati route, another good pick is Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing), with the Italian showing an impressive form and could come as a steal at $2.6M.
Over at Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, Brad Binder has experienced some success in Japan, finishing as runner-up in 2022. The South African will cost $3.4M and could be a good choice, along with his Aussie teammate Jack Miller ($1.2M). The #43 could be a steal and has a good track record, finishing in a strong sixth in last year’s Japanese GP, previously winning in 2022.
At Yamaha, Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™ Team) is fresh off another strong result in Indonesia – bagging his third consecutive seventh-place finish in 2024. The #20 is yet to finish outside the top 10 at Motegi in the premier class and has secured one podium.
In terms of constructors, it is difficult to look past Ducati ($4.9M), with the Bologna brand showing incredible pace – taking victory in the last two years. However, if you are looking for something that is budget-friendly, you may want to look towards KTM ($3M) or Aprilia ($1.8M).
