Back on track and back in form, Championship leader Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) topped the opening session of the weekend. A 1’32.311 saw the #72 just 0.098s ahead of his future teammate Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) whilst 20 riders were covered by less than a second in FP1 at the TT Circuit Assen.
The first crash of the entire weekend went to the winner of the last two Grands Prix as Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) tucked the front into the final chicane. Perfectly OK, he remounted, eventually finishing in P10. As the reigning Champion fell, it was the Championship leader who shone. Back in action after Brno, Bezzecchi led the way in FP1 at Assen whilst his 2027 teammate was second. A late lap from Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) saw the double World Champion in second, ahead of 2024 World Champion Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing). Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) was fourth whilst a late stint from Ai Ogura (SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team) brought the Brno podium finisher to fifth.
All four Aprilias were in the top six with Raul Fernandez (SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team) just behind his teammate in sixth, whilst Joan Mir’s (Honda HRC Castrol) final flying lap elevated him up to P7. Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) finished the session in eighth, ahead of Maverick Viñales (Red Bull KTM Tech3) and Marc Marquez. Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) was in P11 ahead of Diogo Moreira (Pro Honda LCR) who crashed earlier in the session. Top Yamaha honours went to Jack Miller (Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP) in P16.
