Holgado sails to lap record Silverstone P1, Alonso faces Q1

It was contrasting fortunes at Aspar with the #96 beating Agius and Gonzalez to P1on Friday, while the Colombian ends Practice in P22

P1 and a new all-time Moto2 Silverstone lap record signalled a pretty good day at the office for Daniel Holgado (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team) as the MotoGP-bound Spaniard set the pace going into the weekend at the British GP. The #96’s 2:01.815 was 0.095s quicker than Senna Agius’ (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) best effort, and it was the Australian’s teammate Manuel Gonzalez who closed out the top three.

Two tenths separated the World Championship leader and Holgado at the end of play, while Alex Escrig (KLINT Racing Team) continued to impress with a P4 finish on Day 1. The Spaniard finished one place ahead of Izan Guevara (BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2), the leading Boscoscuro rider on Friday at Silverstone, as the rider second in the title race keeps close tabs on his main rival, Gonzalez, heading into qualifying day.

And while it was a very positive day for the recently injured trio of Barry Baltus (REDS Fantic Racing), Daniel Muñoz (Italtrans Racing Team) and Mario Aji (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) in P6, P7 and P8, it wasn’t a thrilling outing for David Alonso (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team).

The Colombian never got going in Practice, and in the end, it resulted in Alonso finishing P22. Q1 beckons for the newly announced 2027 HRC MotoGP rider, while his closest rivals all head straight into Q2. Those include Celestino Vietti (GT Trevisan SpeedRS Team) in ninth and Ivan Ortola (QJMOTOR – Biolec – MSI) in tenth, with the latter holding onto a top 14 place despite a crash at Stowe corner in the closing stages.

Tune into Moto2 qualifying at 14:40 local time (UTC +1) on Saturday afternoon to see if anyone can beat Holgado to pole.
