Ortola pips Holgado by 0.058s on Friday, Alonso and Salač face Q1

Big hitters finish outside the top 14 on a record-breaking Friday at the top of the timesheets

Another Friday in Moto2, another lap record broken. This time at MotorLand Aragon, and this time it went the way of in-form Ivan Ortola (QJMOTOR – Reverte – MSI) as the Spaniard’s 1:49.791 sees the #4 narrowly beat Daniel Holgado (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team) by 0.058s. Third place on Friday went to Senna Agius (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP), with the Australian acting as the only other rider to get within four tenths of Ortola’s lap record.

Completing the top five, ahead of sixth-fastest Manuel Gonzalez (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP), were Alonso Lopez (ITALJET Gresini Moto2) and Celestino Vietti (Folladore SpeedRS Team), as the latter lands a last-gasp lap to grab a Q2 spot. The championship leader finished in that aforementioned sixth spot, while Gonzalez’s chief title rival Izan Guevara (BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2) completed the top 10.

Lower down the order, we then find Silverstone race winner Filip Salač (OnlyFans American Racing Team) in P15, and David Alonso (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team) in P18. A disappointing Friday for the duo, with the Czech rider demoted from P14 very late following Alex Escrig’s (KLINT Racing Team) personal best.

Tune into qualifying from 13:40 local time (UTC +2) to see if Salač and Alonso, plus others, can join the pole position fight.
