It’s a big weekend for Maximo Quiles (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team), who has another opportunity to be crowned Champion this weekend. Quiles enters the weekend with a 127-point advantage over his rivals, and with just 125 points remaining up for grabs after Indonesia, the #28 is now faced with another opportunity to be crowned Moto3 World Champion.
What does Quiles need to do?
Simply put, if Quiles leaves Indonesia with at least a 125-point advantage, then he will be crowned 2026 Moto3 World Champion. Four riders remain in mathematical contention, with Quiles, Alvaro Carpe (Red Bull KTM Ajo), David Almansa (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) and Brian Uriarte (Red Bull KTM Ajo) all facing a pivotal weekend.
Ultimately, Quiles has the opportunity to control his own destiny. A victory would crown him World Champion regardless of other results, whilst P2 would also be enough if Almansa finishes P3 or lower. Meanwhile, a third-place finish will secure Quiles the title if Almansa were to finish P4 or below on Sunday.
Finishing outside the podium positions brings Carpe into contention. If Quiles finishes fourth, Carpe would need to score P2 or worse, while Almansa would need to finish P5 or lower. Anything outside of the top five (P6 or lower) for Quiles brings Uriarte back into the picture, increasing the complications.
It has already been an incredible season for Quiles, who has earned nine race wins and 14 podiums from the opening 16 rounds. The #28 has already scored 52 points more than his entire 2025 campaign, underlining just how impressive his form has been this year.
