The 2026 MotoGP season has delivered drama by the bucketload, breaking records on more than one occasion. Now with 17 rounds in the books, we’re teeing up the perfect way to end the season, as just two points separate the top two in the World Championship. Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) leads Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team), with the pair equalling a record set four seasons ago.
The two-point gap matches 2022’s record, when Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) led Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) by just two points after the Thai GP (Round 17). The pair went head-to-head for the title until the final round at Valencia, with Bagnaia becoming the eventual World Champion – securing his first of two MotoGP titles.

2026: Martin vs Marquez spice things up
We’ve witnessed an incredible season of action, with Martin collecting nine podiums, four pole positions and, of course, his victory at the French GP. Meanwhile, Marc Marquez has had his own share of remarkable moments since returning from injury at the Italian GP. The #93 has clinched six victories, three pole positions and reduced a 102-point deficit to just two points.
If Marquez were able to clinch the title this season, it would be the largest comeback in MotoGP history, beating the previous record, also set in 2022. On that occasion, Bagnaia was crowned Champion after overcoming a 91-point deficit following the German GP.
We’re set up for a blockbuster end to the season, with five rounds to decide the World Championship – beginning at Phillip Island. From Australia, we head to Malaysia, then Qatar, before a return to Europe as Portugal and Valencia host the final stretch.
The battle is on. Two points. Martin vs Marquez. Join us for the final part of the season on motogp.com!
