Kyle Smith was born in Huddersfield, England, though moved to Spain with his family at 7 years of age to pursue a career in motorcycle racing. Immediately going through the ranks in MotoX he became 8Occ champion of Valencia at the age of 12. From a good two-wheel grounding he then moved on to the 125 Spanish Bancaja pre-GP series in 2007, following which he spent a year in the Spanish CEV 125cc Championship with the Aspar Team. In 2009 he switched to the Kawasaki Ninja Cup and took three victories, and from 2010 he has been in the CEV Stock Extreme series. In 2012 he took victory in the opening round in Jerez, and finished the year runner-up. In 2012 he makes his foray onto the world stage as he joins the Blusens Avintia team for its Moto2 project alongside Toni Elías.
