Whilst six rounds have already been completed and further 16 remain, testing continues throughout the MotoGP™ paddock. This week, it’s the turn of Yamaha to hit the track with Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) and teammate Alex Rins. Two days of testing action at the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli” will be welcomed by both riders, who chase improved feeling with the M1 despite recent success.
Quartararo has had back-to-back poles in the opening two European Grands Prix of the season, mounting the podium at Jerez and showing strong at his home GP at Le Mans. As for Alex Rins, the Spaniard took his first Sprint points in two years – thus his first for Yamaha – with P8 on Saturday whilst he bagged the manufacturers’ points on Sunday.
Previously, Augusto Fernandez had been charged with testing duties, getting down to business with an early-version V4 engine spec in Valencia. Since then, Yamaha have managed to bring an upgrade to the M1 in terms of engine, although it’s an evolution of the current inline four spec. What Quartararo and Rins are testing at Misano remains to be seen but it will serve as crucial track time ahead of the Tissot Grand Prix of the United Kingdom from the 23rd – 25th of May.
