Best of Buriram: MotoGP™’s titanic Thai tussles

Take a look at some of the best moments from the Thai GP, with the circuit set to stage the curtain raiser for another highly anticipated season

With the MotoGP™ season opener just days away, we’re set for an incredible start to 2026 in Thailand. For a second consecutive year, Buriram will host the opening race of the season, kicking off what promises to be an unforgettable weekend. As we count down to lights out, let’s take a trip down memory lane and revisit some of the most thrilling moments from past Thai GPs.

2018: A debut for the ages

Our first visit to Thailand was nothing short of unforgettable. Witnessing MotoGP on Thai soil for the very first time was an experience like no other. The Buriram crowd brought an electrifying atmosphere throughout the weekend, creating a deafening roar that echoed across the circuit. On the track, the excitement was palpable, culminating in a thrilling race where title rivals Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) and Andrea Dovizioso reignited their fierce rivalry. The #93 clinched victory at the final corner after an epic showdown. Meanwhile, Maverick Viñales (Red Bull KTM Tech3) narrowly edged out Valentino Rossi to secure a spot on the podium in a dramatic finish.

2019: The Champion and the rookie

One year later, Marquez found himself in the heart of last-lap drama once again. This time, with his sixth MotoGP title within reach, the Spaniard faced off against an impressive rookie, Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP). Another thrilling last-lap duel ensued, leading to a nail-biting final corner showdown. Quartararo made a bold move up the inside, but the reigning World Champion got him on the cutback, sparking wild celebrations in the stands!

2022: Oliveira becomes the rain master

Though our 2022 Thai GP didn’t quite have its almost customary last-lap battle, it did provide a stunning backdrop for a race. Miguel Oliveira darted home to victory amid a thunderstorm in Buriram, earning himself a reputation as a wet-weather specialist after his second victory of the campaign in mixed conditions.

2023: Martin takes a three-way tussle for victory

2023's visit to Buriram gave us one of the most incredible finales and races in recent history. Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) and Jorge Martin's (Aprilia Racing) title fight was at its peak, with the Spaniard showing his mettle and talent to ward off the challenge of the Italian and KTM’s Brad Binder in the fourth closest ever podium finish.

2024: Pecco's perfect rain dance

The 2024 Thai GP was a crucial showdown in the title fight between Pecco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin. The gap grew to 22 points after the Sprint, but Bagnaia hit back with a brilliant first wet-weather MotoGP win. He and Martin nearly clashed early on before Martin ran wide, letting Bagnaia through. Marc Marquez briefly challenged before crashing out, while Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) edged Jack Miller (Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP) in a thrilling scrap for third! What's next... 2026 awaits

Each of our visits to Thailand has been unforgettable, and last season was no exception as Buriram made history – hosting the season opener for the first time. It was a dramatic weekend as Marc Marquez donned Ducati red for the first time, Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) unlocked a new level and Ai Ogura (Trackhouse Racing) stunned with P5 on debut.

Now, with two new rookies on the grid and some major development over winter, we can’t wait to see what this year has in store. Don’t miss a moment, join us for the Thai GP this weekend as we get ready to battle for the first time this year!
