Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) made plenty of history on Sunday. For Aprilia, it was their first win on home soil at Mugello and Jorge Martin even made it a Noale 1-2. Bez also etched his name into the Italian history books – becoming only the sixth Italian rider to win the Italian GP at Mugello.
The others are very familiar names too: Loris Capirossi, Valentino Rossi, Andrea Dovizioso, Danilo Petrucci and Francesco Bagnaia have all stood on the top step at Mugello.
Capirossi, Petrucci and Dovizioso have all won one MotoGP Grand Prix at the legendary venue. Bagnaia, who added another podium with the Ducati Lenovo Team on Sunday, has previously won three. Rossi leads the count with seven victories taken on home turf at Mugello.
“Italian winner on an Italian bike at the Italian GP at Mugello” is an even smaller club too. Bagnaia, Dovizioso and Petrucci all achieved the feat with Ducati and Bezzecchi adds Aprilia to the history books. 2026 is now already their season with the most MotoGP wins – five – with four taken by Bez and one by Martin as he did the double at Le Mans.
Bezzecchi’s Mugello win was also the 299th for Italy in MotoGP, and there is another stat Ducati are homing in on as they look to hit back. The Ducati Lenovo Team are on 99 wins, so one more makes it a century. Tune in this weekend to see if the Borgo Panigale factory can hit back!
