Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP is calling! Their latest signing, Izan Guevara, is preparing to make the jump in 2027. The Spanish sensation becomes our third rookie so far to be announced for the upcoming season, heading into the premier class with a wealth of World Championship experience. The Moto2 star is Yamaha-bound, aiming to follow in the footsteps of some of Mallorca’s greats – Jorge Lorenzo and Joan Mir.
Guevara will have tough competition from the off, with David Alonso and Daniel Holgado already announced as fellow fresh faces. The fight for rookie of the year is beginning to look spicy, so keep your eye on it… But before all that, let’s get to know the #28 a little bit and check out his CV up to this point!
GUEVARA’S BATTLE TO THE TOP
It was a busy junior career for Guevara, starting his motorcycle career at just three years old – eventually racing and rising through the Spanish ranks. His first big step came in 2019, joining the European Cup with high expectations following a successful PreMoto3 campaign the previous year. After points in the opening round, nobody could predict what was next… He went on to win the next six races in a row, and with a further podium at Jerez, it was clear and obvious – Izan Guevara was Champion.
His talent was recognised, moving up to the Moto3 Junior World Championship, whilst being selected for the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. Spending just one year in the Rookies Cup, Guevara scored multiple top-10 finishes, ending the season P9 in the standings.
It was a different story in the Moto3 Junior World Championship, however, because boy oh boy did he deliver! Five wins and a further three podiums; to say it was an impressive year was definitely an understatement. To nobody’s surprise, your 2020 Moto3 Junior World Champion was, of course, Izan Guevara. And after wrapping up the title with three races to spare, the Grand Prix paddock was calling.
Moto3: ROOKIE SHAPING INTO WORLD CHAMP
Spending just two seasons in the lightweight category, his progress (in terms of results and speed) was evident. Signing a deal to join the Aspar Team, Guevara scored points on 11 occasions throughout his first 14 races as a full-time Moto3 rider. Then it was time for COTA… The rookie was sensational, beating the much more experienced Dennis Foggia and John McPhee to clinch his first win. More points followed, marking the start of preparations for a BIG 2022 charge.
It was a rock-solid start to his sophomore season, earning his first podium in Round 2 before standing on the top step at Jerez. That wasn’t his only win of the year, following up the speed on six separate occasions. 12 podiums from 20 races – pretty phenomenal, right? Well, as the saying goes, points make prizes, and for Guevara, he took the ultimate prize at Phillip Island, becoming the 2022 Moto3 World Champion!

Moto2: NEW CHALLENGER TO NEW SCENERY
His dream with Aspar continued for 2023 and 2024, jumping on board a Kalex in his hunt for the crown. It was a difficult rookie campaign for Guevara, finishing P22 in the standings but ending the year with plenty of positives – including P6 at the Australian GP. The next year, the #28’s sophomore season was encouraging, with the highlight arriving in Malaysia as Guevara became a Moto2 podium finisher. A really good year, with the target being more consistency in 2025.
All good things must sadly come to an end. Guevara left Aspar at the end of 2024, starting an exciting new chapter with the Blu Cru Pramac Yamaha Moto2 Team. More consistency followed, and their partnership began to click at Mandalika, where the #28 scored P2. A first victory was on the cards at the final round too, standing on the Valencia GP top step. Moto2 point scorer, podium finisher and now winner – a title attack awaited.
Winning at Le Mans and scoring a further four podiums in the first half of the season, the Spanish star was second in the standings. The season might not be over yet, but clearly Pramac loves what they see – signing and promoting Izan Guevara up to MotoGP for 2027.
MotoGP: A BIG STEP AWAITS
There’s a real buzz around the Pramac Yamaha camp for 2027, with the #28 joining three-time WorldSBK Champion Toprak Razgatlioglu. It’ll be the Turkish rider’s second year in the premier class, with exciting times ahead as we race into the new regulations. Guevara will get his first taste of MotoGP at the post-season Valencia Test, something we’re sure he’s excited for already.
Yamaha’s line-up is looking different next year, with Razgatlioglu becoming the only rider to remain with the Iwata factory from 2026. But there are some very experienced names joining the squad, including 2024 MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martin, who brings plenty of knowledge to the project. Sophomore MotoGP winner Ai Ogura also makes the switch to Yamaha, completing the roster and adding a further exciting face for the 850cc era.
