Nico Terol rose through the ranks of various minor Spanish classes, finishing fourth overall in the Spanish 125 Championship in 2004, the same year in which he debuted in the World Championship as a wildcard. A first full season followed in 2005, but it was 2008 which proved to be Terol’s breakthrough season as five podiums – including a first victory – placed him fifth overall. Third in the standings in 2009 led to a ride with the Aspar team for 2010, where Terol finished runner-up having fought for the title throughout the year – a campaign in which he suffered a fractured vertebra following a crash in the Catalunya race. The Spaniard remained with Aspar set-up for the 2011 World Championship, where he clinched the last 125cc title in history at the final race in Valencia, and then made the step up to Moto2 with Aspar in 2012. His first season proved tough, although he did manage his first podium at the final race in Valencia. He won three races for the squad in 2013 and stayed put for another campaign with Aspar in 2014. In 2015 he moved to WorldSBK with Althea and took a raft of top tens and a best finish of sixth, before the two parties parted ways and he moved to WorldSSP before the season was out. He took two top sixes in his three first Supersport races and he stayed in the class in 2016 full-time, taking his first podium in 2016 at Aragon. After some time out, Terol returns to racing in MotoE™ with the Angel Nieto Team with whom he has competed and worked since 2010.
